 | Claymore mixes fantasy and a sort of medeival Europe setting with a wild west sensibility. The titular Claymores are a group of all-female warriors, half-Yoma (demon) and half-human and are so named for the massive swords they carry. A Claymore wanders the countryside, getting marching orders from their handlers (the only clear political organization discernable is the shadowy group that runs the Claymore program), saving towns from Yoma for a large fee.
The story line is pretty straightforward, though the manga jumps around the timeline a bit via some long flash-backs and while the story revolves around a large number of Claymore interacting with one another. The art is unique and the storytelling is tight and enigmatic.
Don''t pass this up as "just another action manga," though. Through character development and the author''s unique style, this manga rises above many others of it''s kind and isn''t to be missed. |
